The Tie began with Nielsen pushing world No. 8 Fish all the way to three tight sets before Wozniacki, fresh off flying in from Thailand that afternoon, recovered from a slow start to beat Mattek-Sands 7-6, 6-2.
The Danish pair then prevailed in the mixed doubles 7-5, 6-3 to beat the fourth-seeded Americans to now enter the clash with the Bulgarian pair looking to maintain that momentum, but Pironkova and Dimitrov performed well against the top-seeded Czech Republic on Monday.
The Bulgarians are exciting talents capable of beating some of the best players in the game so taking on Wozniacki for Pironkova will hold no fears while Dimitrov will head into his clash with Nielsen confident of a strong performance after he pushed Tomas Berdych to three sets.
If Denmark is able to beat Bulgaria it puts Wozniacki and Nielsen into a good position to make a run towards the Final with their last Tie against the No. 1 seeds Czech Republic on Friday.
However, if Bulgaria can pull out the victory against the Danes they remain alive in the race for the Final as well with their Tie on Friday seeing them take on Mattek-Sands and Fish from the USA.
The Tie will begin with the women’s singles between Wozniacki and Pironkova as they meet one another for the fourth time. The world No. 1 Dane has won the three previous clashes – in 2008 at Miami, the same year at Eastbourne and then in 2010 at Miami.
The men’s singles sees Nielsen and Dimitrov play one another for the first time, but both performed strongly in three-set outings against top 10 players Fish and Berdych in their opeПing matches and now will look to record a victory this time around.
Both teams won their mixed doubles clashes against the USA and Czech Republic respectively in their opeПing Ties so if it comes down to that, each pair will go in with plenty of confidence.
