When you arrive in the departure area of both terminals check the departures board to see which zone your check in desk is situated in. Yellow illuminated cubes clearly mark the zones.
Remember the check in times:
- UK and Ireland flights, check in one hour before your flight time
- European Flights, check in two hours before your flight time
- Long haul flights, check in three hours before your flight time.
Boarding your flight is normally 45 minutes before your flight time. Remember to keep an eye on the monitors as announcements telling you to go to the gate are no longer in use.
There are three other check in facilities available in the terminals: self service, on line and day before check in.
Departures at London Gatwick Airport
There are kiosks with touch screens near to the standard check in desks. You will need the credit card/debit card you paid for your flight with and your flight details to use this facility. Follow the simple instructions on the screen. The machine will print off your boarding card and the tag for your luggage. If you need any help ask a member of staff.
Once you have these documents, fasten the tag onto your luggage and then take your bags to the fast bag drop location.
You can only use this option if your airline is participating in it, so check with your airline at the time of booking.
There is an Executive Lounge operated by Servisair in the Departures Lounge (after security). The lounge offers the usual comfortable surroundings, drinks, snacks, newspapers and business options. The cost per person is approximately 17.95 per visit which is up to 3 hours prior to your departure time.

Departures at London Gatwick Airport South Terminal
When you arrive at the terminal building you will need to make your way to the second floor for check in. There are various check in zones, so you will need to check on one of the monitors at the entrance which will tell you which zone you need to go to.
There is a good range of shops, bars and restaurants in the South Terminal both before and after security. Check the shops, restaurants and bars web pages of the website to find out exactly what is available. Some of the restaurants will provide for children with children’s menus, high chairs etc.
On the lower level of the International Departure Lounge you will find a play area, which are suitable for ages 2 to 6. Also, a play area before security in the Village shopping area, first floor.
Remember these areas are not supervised by staff, so must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
