Germany and Hungary in dialogue
Concert in Berlin
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the treaty of friendship between Germany and Hungary the Dohnanyi Orchestra Budafok performs a gala concert directed by its chief conductor Gabor Hollerung in Berlin. Hollerung is also Artistic Director for INTERKULTUR events and especially for the World Choir Games.
The performance of the orchestra from Budafok in Budapest on this occasion promises to be an outstanding concert experience. Last year it performed at the 2011 Beethoven Festival in Bonn on the Day of German Unity, among others, and received wide critical acclaim.
The program of this May shapes a dialogue between Germany and Hungary and includes Richard Wagner "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg — Overture" as well as a new jazz composition by the Hungarian Karoly Binder. The concert closes with the popular work "Dances from Galanta" by Zoltan Kodaly.
Among tonight’s guests is also Gunter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR: "For us, the friendship between Germany and Hungary is of high significance. The starting point of all INTERKULTUR events has been the 1st International Choir Competition Budapest in 1988. Ever since we’ve been closely connected to Hungary and to Maestro Hollerung.”
Organizer of this concert is the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary, represented by its Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Jozsef Czukor.
The concert takes place on May 22, 2012 in Berlin Cathedral (20:00) and will be followed by another gala concert on May 23, 2012 in the framework of the European Classic Music Festival Ruhr (Yehudi-Menuhin-Forum, Marl).
In July Hollerung will also conduct the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati.
