in Mexico, El Salvador recorded two wins, one tie, and one loss. They began the final round by beating Curacao 3–1, but lost their other two matches leaving them in fifth place. They debuted against in a 2–2 tie, beat 3–1, beat Mexico 3–2 and finally beat Panama 1–0 with a goal by «Cariota» Barraza. The 3–2 victory against Mexico, with two goals from Mario Montoya (16′,36′) and one from Ricardo Valencia (37′), was the first victory by a Central American team against Mexico.
