About Us
We are the Church of Scotland congregation in the Abbeyhill area of Edinburgh. We are close to Edinburgh’s city centre, on the corner of London Road and Easter Road. Services are at 11am every Sunday and last for about an hour. Special services are held at times of Christian festivals, like Christmas and Easter.
We offer a warm welcome to all who join us in our worship and in our life together as people on a journey of faith.
The main entrance to the church is on London Road. Go through the big door into the entrance hall, where you’ll be given a hymn book and shown through one of two smaller doors into the main part of the church. Feel free to sit anywhere but it’s probably best to avoid the front couple of rows unless you’re part of a baptism party or wanting to join the Young Church. Wheelchair access is available on request at the main entrance.
In common with many Church of Scotland congregations, London Road celebrate a formal service of Holy Communion four times a year. These are slightly longer than normal services and take place on the last Sunday of January, April, June and October. There is usually a short service of Communion after the main service on the last Sunday of other months. All are welcome at God’s table.
On all other Sundays, tea and coffee are served in the halls after the service. The halls are accessible from Easter Road, and via stairs or chairlift from the church.
We are always delighted to have children around. Busy-bags can be borrowed from the main entrance to help entertain them.
The Young Church meet on most Sundays between October and June. The children sit near the front of the church until the end of the second hymn and then go down to the halls for games, songs and stories. We also have occasional All Age services designed for the whole church family to worship together. Check the calendar opposite to see if one’s coming up. During the summer months, services generally tend to be more informal. (Note: The Young Church do not meet on the Sundays of the quarterly Communion services.)
A creche room is available for younger children. Handily, it’s reached by going down the stairs at the front of the church where everyone can see you. Nonetheless, parents are encouraged to bring babies and toddlers in and out of the service as the need arises. Head towards the doors at the front, looking harassed, and someone will show you the way.
There is a monthly Prayer Meeting which is open to everyone. Occasionally, short series of Bible Studies or courses reflecting on our Christian faith are held. All are welcome and no previous knowledge is required.
