Compare your race time with Olympian swimmers and TV celebrities at the 2014 Great London Swim, which takes place at London’s Dock;lands. Part of a series of one mile swims taking place under the Great Swim banner in 2014, the London event features both professional athletes and amateur enthusiasts.
Great London Swim
Open to swimmers of all abilities, the Great London Swim gives you the chance to test your strength, stamina and swimming technique alongside plenty of other enthusiasts. Taking place against an instantly recognisable urban backdrop, the London event is followed later on in August and September by swims in Scotland, Windermere, Manchester and Suffolk.
Open air swim
If splashing about in your local swimming pool has seemed a bit too tame of late and you’re looking for a chance to test your mettle in a wilder setting, then the Great London Swim might just be the thing for you. Previous races have seen Olympic swimmers compete, so if you do sign up to take part, you’ll be in the company of some of the world’s best swimmers.
This year also sees the introduction of a new family session where swimmers from 12 years upwards can take on a slightly shorter half mile course. Perfect for those with eager swimming children, this short swim makes for a fantastic opportunity to all get in the water together as a family.
Charity fundraiser
As well as giving swimmers the chance to meet their own personal challenges, the Great Swim event at Docklands is also an opportunity to raise money for some worthwhile causes. So whether you want to take part in the London event to support national charities such as Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Diabetes UK, Mind and RNLI Lifeboats or want to raise funds for a local charity close to your heart, this is your chance to sign up and get fundraising.
The Great London Swim takes place on Saturday 30th August 2014, with staggered starts between 9am and 3.30pm. The entry fee is ?38.00. Please note that wetsuits are compulsory for this event. For more information and to enter the event, click on the link below.
